Christmas Countdown!!!

We've had our busiest year to date with commissions (no gift spoilers I promise!) but fear not, our little shop has not been neglected!!... A little peek at just a few of the collections added this week..

Bulls Heads
Oxidised silver

 Oxidised Silver

A customer had seen my 'Winter Stag' brooch made for an exhibition called 'Loved Ones' that artist Tanya Dixcey and I held few years back and commissioned a pair of cufflinks for her husband.  I got a little carried away with the theme!!

The ordered cufflinks. Oxidised silver.

Just some of the pieces made for the shop.. One was sold before it even made it to the cabinet!!

Also fresh off of the bench, monochrome oxidised silver with white, fresh water pearl hand made chains and of course, our classic enamel ranges in gorgeous shades.

As usual, our opening times are Mon-Sat 10-5

New Folk Forest Pieces, 'We Love Wight' & Sherlock Holmes!!

Our Christmas grotto/workshop has been in full swing this season. We're busier than ever making beautful one-off pieces for our lovely customers. We're sorry to say that our 'commission gates' are now fully closed (with the exception of Pieces of Eight bangles and pendants) and we're no longer taking any more orders  this side of Christmas. But do not fret,  I've been designing and making some brand new 'off the peg' collections currently in the shop with more on the way!.

Here are some of our faves..

The latest pieces to add to my 'Folk Forest' 10 year anniversary collection....

Birds Nests....
I've always been fascinated by the intricacy of birds nest and their hidden secret eggs in beautiful hues.. These little pieces have been constructed with hair fine silver threads, which have been curved and laid piece by piece to shape their 'spun-like' forms.
Left: Oxidised silver with 9ct gold eggs. Right: Silver set with Yellow Sapphire.
Left:Oxidised silver set with Moss Agate. Right: Silver set with Turquoise.

Staying on the bird theme, I was commissioned by a lady from Australia to make this little brooch/pendant for her Robin loving sister.
Pierced oxidised silver with granulation,  set with Garnet.

Sherlock Holmes
This next commission was probably one of my most challenging!. I met a lovely lady back in the summer who is the founder of award winning, a fansite billed as "the ultimate guide for any BBC Sherlock fan". They have a huge following (one million site hits a month!) and as they're the only site with the BBC's blessing, boast direct access to the show's cast and crew members.

So you can imagine how honored I was to be asked to make three "221B Baker Street" door pendants to mark the site's  three year anniversary (for those not in the know, Sherlock's home address!).
I used a mix of hand piercing and over-lay techniques to create the little sculptures, detailing the numbers, letter boxes, door knockers and locks in solid 9ct gold... A very difficult yet hugely satisfying job. Watch this space for an exciting Honeybourne Jewellery/Sherlockology collaboration early next year (very hush hush for now!!!)

Old Jewellery makeover
As my regular readers will know, I can re-create pieces from old or inherited gold and stones. Below is a before and after shot of what's possible..
before: an old earring and diamond pendant
After: Silver band with textured gold pod melted down from the earring. The diamond was removed from original setting, cleaned up and set in the middle of the pod bringing new life to it. She loved it!.

And finally.....
 We Love Wight!!
We found a little hand made cabinet in a charity shop which fitted in to our (small but perfectly formed!) shop beautifully. We gave it a little Honeybourne Jewellery spruce up and commissioned some of our fave Isle of Wight Jewellers to make us some special Christmas stock...

 Leela Rye..
Leela's hand pierced brushed silver pieces delicately capture spring scenes of tulips and grasses, kept modern within a square format.

Kat Ball..
Fashion trained Kat (who sometimes teams up with Leela as 'Leela and the Kat'), hand embroiders these intricate pieces of art encased in miniature wooden frames. She captures woodland and natural themes so beautifully within her brooches, necklaces and earrings

Jodie Dibbens..
Theodosia's very own in-house designer and Birmingham University trained Jodie, has made us a stunning collection of her flora and fauna inspired pieces in solid silver.

Well, back to the workbench!!

Our opening hours are Mon-Sat 10-5
As usual, please phone ahead if you want to speak with me.

Eeeekk... White Mouse released in to Folk Forest..

As many of you know, we celebrated our Ten Year anniversary this year by launching ten charms, each of a limited run, inspired by all things woodland and folk. The first batch far exceeding expectations, having virtually sold out!!. I'm busy designing and making the next ideas (due in the shop mid Nov). Here's a little eek, I mean peek!...

Oxidised silver White Mice Pendants
More to come, watch this space...

Bespoke Commission Corner!!
With Manchester and London Dazzle stock nearing completion (around 300 pieces made..phew!), here are some of my favorite commissions hot off of the workbench.

25 Year Wedding Anniversary
This was a joy to work on. A regular customer wanted a really special piece for his wife that celebrated 25 years of marriage. He wanted to incorporate their original wedding theme of big and small horseshoes (both had their own horses) stacked on top of each other. I set 25 Amethyst and Garnet stones inside the shoes, representing the couples birthstones.

More Men!!
Following a great response from my 'Men Only' blog (it's apparent I'm not alone in finding men hard to buy for!), here are a couple of other ideas to wet the appetite..
Hand forged solid silver money clips with hammered texture (the ordered money clip was stamped with the guys initials).

A couple of men's rings that I made for the shop. Oxidised silver with 9ct detail.

This piece was made for a daughter named (of course!) Holly. Solid silver with shaped and forged holly leaf.

Keys, Arrows and Tags.
A bride and groom ordered a bunch of these as wedding gifts to mark their special day.

Opal Ladybird
This was a lovely piece to work on. A customer had inherited her late Grandma's opal earrings and having discussed various options, we set on using the stones and gold to decorate one of my Ladybird charms and set the rest on to two stacking rings. .
 Ladybird with daisies.
 Stacking rings.
Before the transformation.

Phase no.1 of inherited ring commission..
Here's one of many pieces I'm working on at the moment. The customer brought in several rings, some broken or just un-wanted. I've used similar sized stones to make up this mock-up in silver for her to try and for us to make any changes to the design.

Stacking rings in silver and London Blue Topaz. Phase 2 to follow!..

A few other new pieces currently gracing our cabinets.
Silver set with Ruby, Sapphires and Diamond.

We're busy making some beautiful new collections in time for Christmas, which I'll be blogging very soon (very excited!). So be sure to get your bespoke orders in in time (deadline early Nov). As usual, be sure to call ahead if you need to speak with me directly.

Our shop opening times are Mon-Sat 10-5

Rocket Scientists, Bubble Specialists and even more Lacrosse!

We've been cracking on with this years Christmas Dazzle stock (groan, always feels too early to mention the C word!). Here are some of my fave bespoke pieces that have been keeping me equally as busy...

Trinidadian Inspired Neckpiece
As my regular readers know, I'm never one to turn down a challenge! This piece was a real joy to work on. A gentleman asked me to design and make a special piece to mark his wife's retirement from a long career in nursing. The brief was tricky, he asked me to incorporate many things unique to her. As she was born in Trinidad, he felt an orchid would best represent this. He wanted the piece to echo the shape of a traditional nurse's buckle and finally he wanted the piece to incorporate a crescent moon.
Eh voila, the final piece.. Oxisdised solid silver with 18ct gold beads and filigree work.
A little bird told me that he presented it to her during her retirement party and she was thrilled with the piece... Phew!!

Lacrosse Cuff
Regular customers and proud parents to a pro Lacrosse player wanted another piece to mark an important game played by their daughter. I had the hand forged piece engraved by the wonderful Peter Harris (more on him later!), then added tiny handmade lacrosse sticks, detailing the nets in 18ct gold. Finally setting Rainbow Moonstones in 18ct to both represent the ball and match the ring I made for her a few years back.

Oxidised silver, 18ct gold & Rainbow Moonstone.

 Custom design
Here on the Island, we're super lucky to have our very own hand-engraver Peter Harris. He's  exceptionally talented (although would never admit it!) and has done many a beautiful piece for me. The piece below illustrates how a customer can have their own design engraved on to a simple band or piece. Peter also engraved an inscription on the inside.

Men Only!!
We at Honeybourne Jewellery know only too well how hard it is to buy (and make!) gifts for men. Below are a few recent pieces that might spark some early Christmas ideas...
The wife of a professional trumpet player had his favorite piece of music pierced out and overlaid on to solid silver cufflinks.

A vintage Rover car lover had his initials added to the Rover 'shield' badge design to make these silver cufflinks care of his girlfriend.

A personalised silver plectrum as a congratulations gift from proud parents for their son's GCSE results.

A very stylish gentleman designed these silver matches for himself to wear as a pendant (I later found out that he split the pair, giving the other to his girlfriend... Aww!)

Solid silver bookmark made for a rocket scientist. The other made for his wife (a bubble specialist of course!)
Ladies, get thinking and contact me with any ideas you may have for the man or men in your life!
Gold Pieces of Eight
We've had a spat of 9ct gold Pieces of Eight orders of late. This is one of my faves, a solid 9ct gold bangle with names special to her.

Ivy Ring
This was made for a botanist (writing this has made me realise what a vast array of professionals we've had this summer!) . She wanted an ivy inspired, natural looking ring.
Oxidised solid silver.
Engagement and Wedding Band Stack

A lovely couple, new to us, had this set made to replace existing rings. The Sapphire and Blue Topaz are their birthstones, the ten gold beads represent how many years the couple have been married for.

Old Ring Makeover!
I'm inundated with this kind of commission at the moment. I take old, inherited rings or stones and create something new. Here are a couple of my favorites..
Three solid silver stacking bangles filled with gold beads and set with the Sapphires and yellow Diamonds taken from the old rings. There was even some left over to the fill a pair of our pod studs.
Two silver stacking bands filled with the 18ct white gold beads and set diamond from the old rings.

There are tonnes of examples of this kind of work (at least 7 years worth), just scroll down and click 'older posts' to inspire new life in to old pieces.
And finally, we wanted to say a BIG thank you to Style of Wight  for the lovely write-up celebrating our 10 year anniversary...

As usual, if you would like to meet with me directly, please call ahead to make sure that I'm in the shop

Rock Stars, Brownies and The Return of Our German Fan!

Old Ring Makeovers!
I'm choc a block with this kind of commission at the mo, customers are handing over their inherited pieces for me to work my Honeybourne magic! Here are just a few of our faves...

Three Stacking Bands
I loved working on this piece. A customer brought in this random selection of bits and bobs and said "I love your stuff, I trust you to make what you like"! What a compliment to be given free reign. I worked on the idea that although they were to be worn together as a group, each ring should work in it's own right.

 Before the makeover..

Ta dah! The finished piece. Two silver bands using the inherited gold for the pods, settings and granulation. The middle ring uses the original gold wedding band, the diamonds are set in silver, studded with silver granulation .
 Together as stacking bands
The result.......The customer had these delicious chocolate brownies posted to us with a note that read "For Sophie, Thank you for designing the most beautiful ring. It's perfect". Mmmm, I love my job!

Blossom Pod Ring
I used a customer's old gold (odd earrings, bits and bobs that we all collect at the bottom of our jewellery boxes!), to make the central pods for this Blossom Pod ring.

Engagement Ring
Before the makeover

After!.. Solid 9ct white gold band, the gold from the old ring sets the diamond.

Dad's Bling!
I made this for my Dad's birthday pressi and as a thank you for re-fitting our shop back in Nov!. Solid chunky band set in gold with 7 inherited diamonds. Thanks again Dad!!

 International Relations!
We've had an increasing number of European and worldwide orders through not only Not on The High Street (Cananda and the States to name a few) but also on our own merits. We've recently sent work to Amsterdam, Austria and Sweden. Our self titled "German Fan" contacted us from Germany for more work, having commissioned some pieces a few years back. She saw our Christmas 2012 Blog featuring our bird inspired pieces and ordered her very own. She also ordered one of our keyrings for her partner with the text "Home is where we are", a really lovely quote.

 Wedding Bells
A lovely couple got married back in June and had a whole range of personalised gifts made for their family and close friends to mark the occasion ..

Bride's gift for the Groom. Guess which team he supports?!
 Best man keyring: Solid silver.
Solid silver dog tag for the son of the groom
Arrow and Pieces of Eight for the youngest son of the bride (he had his very own Native Indian theme and a wigwam to play in at the wedding, sooo cute!)
Eldest son of the bride, torc bangle with his fave song lyrics stamped on the inside
Bridesmaids Pieces of Eight bangles. I asked the bride to give three words/memories that reminded her of each bridesmaid.

The lucky couple had their favorite band Starsailor play at the wedding and after the spectacular, commissioned a solid silver plectrum to send to front man James Walsh!

Beautiful Bride
Raff and I were lucky enough to see some of our pieces in action at the weekend. Our lovely friend's had their enchanting day at the  East Dene in Bonchurch. The bride looked stunning in one of our classic Blossom Pod neckpieces, with bracelet and studs to match. Congratulations to the gorgeous pair and thanks for an amazing day.

Wedding Band to Echo Engagement Band
A lovely couple bought this diamond and silver engagement ring from us a little while back now and wanted a suitable wedding band.

The pieces mirror each other.

Wedding Anniversary Charm Bangle

One of our classic Honeybourne Jewellery Buttons was commissioned and added to the envelope I made last year. The button represents cotton, the envelope, paper. Looking forward to next years challenge which is represented by leather.......Hmmm?!

Our Old Friend the Lily Pad collection
I was commissioned to make one of these rings for a customer recently and made a few more versions for the shop.

 I Did It!!!!
I never thought it was possible but I managed to make the 5 limited edition Aubrey's Cottage Charms that I'd promised to our customers (plus one extra for the shop!). No more though, I nearly went kiddy with concentration!.

We've just posted 100 pieces off Edinburgh Dazzle
All the best with the exhibition guys!. Amazing news to hear that they've secured Southbanks OXO Tower for this years London Dazzle, can't wait for that!.

As usual, if you'd like to pop in for a chat about any ideas you're thinking of, please phone ahead to check I'm in the shop.
