Trinidadian Inspired Neckpiece
As my regular readers know, I'm never one to turn down a challenge! This piece was a real joy to work on. A gentleman asked me to design and make a special piece to mark his wife's retirement from a long career in nursing. The brief was tricky, he asked me to incorporate many things unique to her. As she was born in Trinidad, he felt an orchid would best represent this. He wanted the piece to echo the shape of a traditional nurse's buckle and finally he wanted the piece to incorporate a crescent moon.
Eh voila, the final piece.. Oxisdised solid silver with 18ct gold beads and filigree work.
Regular customers and proud parents to a pro Lacrosse player wanted another piece to mark an important game played by their daughter. I had the hand forged piece engraved by the wonderful Peter Harris (more on him later!), then added tiny handmade lacrosse sticks, detailing the nets in 18ct gold. Finally setting Rainbow Moonstones in 18ct to both represent the ball and match the ring I made for her a few years back.
Oxidised silver, 18ct gold & Rainbow Moonstone.
Here on the Island, we're super lucky to have our very own hand-engraver Peter Harris. He's exceptionally talented (although would never admit it!) and has done many a beautiful piece for me. The piece below illustrates how a customer can have their own design engraved on to a simple band or piece. Peter also engraved an inscription on the inside.
We at Honeybourne Jewellery know only too well how hard it is to buy (and make!) gifts for men. Below are a few recent pieces that might spark some early Christmas ideas...
The wife of a professional trumpet player had his favorite piece of music pierced out and overlaid on to solid silver cufflinks.
A vintage Rover car lover had his initials added to the Rover 'shield' badge design to make these silver cufflinks care of his girlfriend.
A personalised silver plectrum as a congratulations gift from proud parents for their son's GCSE results.
A very stylish gentleman designed these silver matches for himself to wear as a pendant (I later found out that he split the pair, giving the other to his girlfriend... Aww!)
Solid silver bookmark made for a rocket scientist. The other made for his wife (a bubble specialist of course!)
Ladies, get thinking and contact me with any ideas you may have for the man or men in your life!
Gold Pieces of Eight
We've had a spat of 9ct gold Pieces of Eight orders of late. This is one of my faves, a solid 9ct gold bangle with names special to her.
This was made for a botanist (writing this has made me realise what a vast array of professionals we've had this summer!) . She wanted an ivy inspired, natural looking ring.
Oxidised solid silver.
Engagement and Wedding Band Stack
A lovely couple, new to us, had this set made to replace existing rings. The Sapphire and Blue Topaz are their birthstones, the ten gold beads represent how many years the couple have been married for.
Old Ring Makeover!
I'm inundated with this kind of commission at the moment. I take old, inherited rings or stones and create something new. Here are a couple of my favorites..
Three solid silver stacking bangles filled with gold beads and set with the Sapphires and yellow Diamonds taken from the old rings. There was even some left over to the fill a pair of our pod studs.
Two silver stacking bands filled with the 18ct white gold beads and set diamond from the old rings.
There are tonnes of examples of this kind of work (at least 7 years worth), just scroll down and click 'older posts' to inspire new life in to old pieces.
And finally, we wanted to say a BIG thank you to Style of Wight for the lovely write-up celebrating our 10 year anniversary...
